SUSTAINABLE CHRISTMAS TIPS PART 1

With Christmas just around the corner, many of us are beginning to consider our impact on the planet at this time of the year. We all love to enjoy the festive season but there are so many ways you can do this whilst also considering the impact you may be having on the environment, from purchasing eco-friendly gifts to sustainable Christmas cooking.

Here are KEEPER Denim’s top 5 tips on how to have a sustainable Christmas:

  1. CHRISTMAS TREE

The debate between a real vs. a fake Christmas tree has gone on for many years, but no matter which one you prefer, there are more sustainable options for both. If you prefer a real Christmas tree, make sure to look for the FSC certification which confirms the tree was sourced sustainably. When it comes to selecting a fake tree, to significantly reduce your impact on the planet, your best bet would be to purchase one second from places such as eBAY, Gumtree of Facebook Marketplace, however if you would prefer to buy a ‘new’ one, be sure to invest in a good quality tree that will last for many years to come.

  1. DECORATIONS

When it comes to selecting decorations for your Christmas tree, look for pieces made from recyclable materials such as wood or glass. Opt for good quality, classic/traditional style pieces rather than season trending ones, so you can use them in the future.

  1. ECO-FRIENDLY GIFTS

Whilst it can be tempting to go over-board when shopping for gifts for your friends and family, consider opting for quality over quantity. One option is to do a secret Santa gifting option where you only need to purchase one, well thought out, good quality gift. Consider eco-friendly options too that are made locally from sustainable materials.

  1. GIFT WRAPPING

Every year there are so many new trends when it comes to wrapping your gifts, but why not think about more sustainable options that look great too! For example, you could reuse wrapping paper from previous gifts you’ve received or wrap your gifts with materials that can be recycled such as plain paper (no glitter on it) or even fabric!

  1. FOOD

So much food is wasted ever year from Christmas day as we tend to buy more than we need for fear of running out! So, when it comes to planning your meal for Christmas day, make sure to go shopping with a grocery list, so you only buy the items that you need and don’t end up panic buying when you’re at the shops. On boxing day - make sure you eat all those leftovers. There are plenty of recipes you can use to create new dishes by reusing this food.

We hope you found these KEEPER Denim top 5 tips on how to have a sustainable Christmas helpful! Hopefully there are some suggestions here that you haven’t thought of before and can try this Christmas.
