At KEEPER Denim, we recently published a blog article on the Difference Between Biodegradable and Compostable - highlighting the positive and negatives of each. Today we are diving into composting and the incredible benefits that it has for our planet.

WHAT IS COMPOSTING?

Composting is the natural process of recycling organic materials including food scraps and leaves, into new soil/fertiliser that you can then put onto your garden. Anything that grows naturally will eventually decompose, however the process of composting speeds this up.

HOW TO COMPOST

A compost bin is comprised of layers, including brown material (dead leaves, sticks and paper) and green materials (garden clippings and food scraps). These layers must be moist, but not too wet and the bin must have a lid to retain both heat and moisture inside and aired every week or two. Then after a couple of months, you will have new soil in your compost that you can then put into your garden!

It can do this with a wide variety of food waste including fruit, vegetables, dairy and bones. You can then place these food scraps into a conventional compost bin to fully decompose into soil.
